When you say "Canada is no better under a Conservative Minority Government," you present the arrogance of the Liberal Party to the public in blatant view. For you, Laura, to claim something that is baseless, due to the fact that we have not had a chance to begin our mandate, simply because it is against the Conservative Party, is to go against the Canadian electorate.

For you to imply that the Conservative Party is/will be corrupt simply because it is in power, is offensive. I find it deplorable that you attempt to defend a former governing party that was incredibly corrupt, and wasteful. The examples are staggering: Two Billion wasted on the Gun Registry, the HRDC Six Billion Screw Up, the Sponsorship Scandal, David Dingwall... I could go on and on, but I will save my breath.

The Canadian Electorate did not choose the Liberal party to be it's government. Why, Laura, can you not accept the Conservative mandate, and stick to the issues as opposed to berating the electorate for choosing a new government?
http://canadianpoliticalyouth.blogspot.com/

If only we had seen this a week ago...

I was watching CNN today(well, not really watching, nobody WATCHES CNN, but I digress) and this ad came on. Democrats are pushing the Honest Leadership Act in Congress. What is this, you ask? It's the American version of the Stephen Harper's Accountability Act. But, hold on a second. Democrats and Liberals are the same in terms of values, as the Republicans and Conservatives are the same in values. (I'm generalizing, please bear with me) What does this mean? It means that, yet again, there is proof that corruption, fraud, bureacracy, are not partisan issues. The Americans ousted the Democrats in 1994 when they felt the government was corrupt. Today, they're tired of the constant scandal and abuse of power. The November 2006 Congressional election will see more Democrats in power, and they'll be touting the success of the "Honest Leadership Act". I only wish Canadians had of seen this a week ago. Perhaps one or two would have realized that Canada is no better with change, no better with a minority Conservative government. Money follows power. It's inevitable that things happen. Let's look to our neighbours to the south, and not let history repeat itself. Vote for your values, not campaign promise to clean up government. Just a little thought.
Laura,
Bowmanville, ON
http://canadianpoliticalyouth.blogspot.com/

E-Day is Here!

January 23rd, 2006

Well, here we are... January 23rd- Election Day in Canada. There's something different in the air this time around; a wind of change, if you will. After thirteen long years of Liberal rule, the "natural governing" party of Canada is about to be sent to the benches of the Opposition.

I say it's about time- After constant scandal and flip-flop, the people have clearly had enough, and in just 4 1/2 short hours, will be able to voice their dissent with the Liberal Party of Canada.

It truly is time for change in this country, and the Conservative Party is the ONLY party that can cause this change to occur. How can a Liberal government clean up a scandal that it created? Simply put, it cannot, and will not. I have no kind words for the Liberal party. They ran a terrible campaign, and the results of the vote will reflect that.

Posting in this blog has created some tension between the members of the various parties, who, under normal circumstances would be friends. I can only hope that partisan politics aside, people can realize that this truly was a battle of the minds. Intelligent, articulate points were raised at all times, and yes, the debate did get a tad heated at times, but that is what this country is all about- debate and the ability to voice concerns. I commend all members of the blog for their involvement, but do have one question for Laura: How, in your position with Elections Canada, a position "trusted to by the Canadian Electorate?" You were never elected to that position, correct? Therefore, the Canadian Electorate does not put it's faith in you- it does, however, expect you to do your job in a non-partisan professional way.

My final blog for this campaign can be expected late Tuesday morning, with what we can only hope will bring "Prime Minister Elect Harper," and "Leader of the Official Opposition Gilles Duceppe."
http://canadianpoliticalyouth.blogspot.com/

I'm the Biggest nerd ever!!!

Well today is election morning and guess what I can't sleep. I've been working in the campaign office, making calls, canvassing and taking part in the democratic process. Tomorrow, I'm a Registration Officer, entrusted by the Canadian electors. What have we learned from it
all? We need to stop treating Canadians like they're gullible idiots who can only make a decision based on what they see on t.v. I hate
negative ads, regardless of the party who endorses them. Soundbites should not make or break an election. I want to wish my fellow bloggers an extended hand of congratulations for a well-fought campaign. I wish you the best of luck in whatever campaign you are helping with, or even if you just have a vested interest in the process. Let's hope that friendships can be mended
as of Tuesday. Exciting times to be alive, and working in the war rooms of the Campaign. This campaign has solidified two things for me; one, my life will lead me into a career as a politician at the federal level. Two, I will NEVER vote Liberal in my life.

Work on the campaign trail is tiring, yet exhillarating at the same time. You gain an extensive knowledge of how to run a campaign, meet new people who share your beliefs, and you solidify where you stand and the values in which you believe in, and support. For me, those values are Conservative.

The Liberal government has not worked for me in the thirteen years it has held power. As friends of the party benefitted, the average income of the Canadian family didn't change. As the lower class struggled to put food on its table, David Dingwall charged taxpayers for a package of gum. As the average Canadian worked to earn a living, friends of the Liberal party recieved government contracts for no work being done. All of this, and the people continued to give Chrètien and now Martin, mandates to govern.

People, however, aren't stupid, and the electorate is no different. Attack ads, policy written on the back of napkins, and continual jargon and flip-flops have shown the people where the Liberal party really stands, and people aren't pleased with what they see.

To the Liberal Party of Canada? Thanks for thirteen years of nothing. I somehow recieved a newsletter from the Young Liberals of Canada, which, I would never subscribe to. Anyways, at the bottom of this garbage, was the comment:

Now, this comment is degrading on many levels; For one, my vote is MY choice, and exactly that; by telling me that the party I choose to vote for, should it not be the Liberal Party, does not represent my values. Why would I vote for a party that doesn't represent my values? Secondly, the Liberal Party is NOT the only party that has values. In fact, I would argue that the Liberals hold no values, unless flip-flops, entitlement for the few, and corruption are Canadian values. The party I choose to vote for can form the government- hence why I would cast a vote for them to do exactly that.

The Liberal Party of Canada-
Not My Values, Not My Choice. EVER

http://canadianpoliticalyouth.blogspot.com/

Get the Facts Right Laura...

January 12th, 2006

Responding to your comment regarding the Notwithstanding Clause: I think you're delirious Laura.

I elect people to make the laws; judges are not elected, and therefore do not make the decisions for me. Making people more accountable is limiting power? Not allowing ANY party to steal from the taxpayers in the way that the Liberal party did takes power away? A government that's not accountable is what we have, and the Conservatives have a STRONG plan to stop this, and you say it takes power away.

In fact, more power is given to independent investigators to hold the governing party accountable. It's interesting how these things work, if you actually sit down and read them as opposed to giving the typical Liberal response, of jargon and flip-flops.

Heaven forbid a political party realizes that the US is not a country we can treat like garbage and ignore. It's funny how you defend the plan to remove the NWC so vehementley, and then retract and tell us it won't ever be done.

I have lost all respect for ANY Liberal- despicable ads (AKA Televised Lies), desperation, and now your comments Laura. Usually, the Liberal bloggers on this particular blog are raring for a fight, yet lately, the fight has left them, and the sense of defeat has overcome the Liberal campaign. I would like, if I may, to give some facts that may interest our Liberal readers:

Paul Martin may try to promote his "written-on-a-napkin" plan to eliminate the notwithstanding clause. What he failed to mention was that just last year he threatened to use the notwithstanding clause if certain rights of churches were taken away by the courts.

Paul Martin may try to accuse the Conservative Party of having lobbyists working on the campaign. What he won't say is that David Herle, a partner in The Gandalf Group, is also the co-chair of the Liberal campaign. Herle had a contract with the Finance Department during the same time of the income trust consultation and decision making period.

It's funny how these things work, isn't it? I'd love to hear the Liberals try and rebutt these points- the thing is, they can't. It's clear, especially after the despicable attack ads the now desperate Liberals have released. Soldiers with guns in cities? Well, I must say that for the Liberals, this is a new low. We knew they'd get dirty, and here are the results that Canadians predicted. We have John Duffy, getting angry over journalists questioning the ad on the military in cities, we have Susan Murray on "Politics with Don Newman" saying that the notion of the sinking Liberal campaign is "bullshit."

I'm damn proud to be a Canadian, and just as proud to be a Conservative- a party that is taking the high road. This governing party is sinking, and it's sinking fast. I wish I could say the Titanic was as bad of a disaster as this campaign, but that would paint the Liberals in a good light.

Paul Martin once called the GST a "regressive, and un-fair tax on living." My, isn't it astounding how the times change? Now, it's wrong to cut the GST! The flip-flops continue...

I must admit, I have a small inkling of sympathy for the Liberals- it must be frustrating to have to suffer through a sinking campaign that looks to send them to the Opposition benches. Candidates try, but they cannot distance themselves from the floundering national campaign, a desperate leader, and a sense of defeat. After twelve years of lies, flip-flops, broken promises, and scandal, it's about time. I am a Conservative- I bleed blue, and will until the day I die. The Liberals do not represent my beliefs- I don't stand for thievery and lies. I am a responsible citizen, I will pay my taxes, and play by the rules, and the party I choose does the same. For me, the choice is Bev Oda, Stephen Harper, and the Conservative Team; not Doug Moffatt, Paul Martin and the arrogant, corrupt Liberal cronies.

Standing Up for Canada,

Josh Terry

http://canadianpoliticalyouth.blogspot.com/

Cities. Between scandals, flip-flops, and now an instant constitutional ammendment, what can we take away from Paul Martin's campaign? One thing- he is desperate for power, on any terms, at any time.

The Conservatives are set to form the government- is this set in stone? No. Is it something that Canada needs, after twelve years of lies and scandal? Yes. If I may, I'd like to point out that the sole purpose of a debate is to defend the plans already released, and the policy of the governing party- not to introduce a blatant attempt to re-gain a government. I personally think that he is desperatly trying to cling to power. His constitutional reform is an absoulute joke. Without consulting the provinces this promise is a liberal promise. Paul Martin is trying to americanize canada by giving the Supreme Court of Canada absoulute power. I have to agree with Stephen Harper's comment that Canada is somewhere in between Britain and America and the power is equally shared between the Courts and Parliament. Obviously Martin is trying to make constitutional reform a weage issuse and remove power from elected officals and place it in the hands of old appionted fogies. Here is a suggestion to the liberal party why not try and bring Quebec in the consitiution rather than americanize Canada.

Stand Up for Canada

That's why I will vote Conservative
http://canadianpoliticalyouth.blogspot.com/

Couldn't have said it better myself...

January 9th, 2006

Well, Kyle, you took the words right from my mouth. Is it safe to say that you are a Conservative supporter, or am I misinformed and we in fact have an NDP supporter? Either way, you aren't a Liberal, and it's refreshing to see on this blog. Let me say welcome on behalf of those who can see the holes in Liberal policy and ideals.

Liberal desperation is at a new low, and I personally find it hilarious. I think tonights debate came with an un-precedented event: the invention of constitutional policy on the spot. It's funny how power can do funny things to people...

Paul Martin did nothing tonight- he didn't defend his record, he didn't bring forward a viable, feasable plan for this country, and he showed that his job should be the Leader of Her Majesty's Loyal Opposition (and that's stretching it...). Stephen Harper, on the other hand, came across with a positive, viable message for this country, and in fact appeared more "Prime Ministerial" than ever before. Paul Martin floundered, was desperate, and could not deliver the message he so desperately needed to get to the changing electorate. One thing is clear though: at least I know where to turn if I want an "Insta-Constitution."
http://canadianpoliticalyouth.blogspot.com/

Paul Martin & the Notwithstanding Clause

Wow can someone say desperation. The notwithstanding clause is a fundamental piece of our democracy - the people rule the land, not the courts!

Its also quite comical how the Prime Minister thinks he can just change the constitution with a simple vote in the parliament, not a bit of consultation with the provinces.

Paul Martin, give me a break.

KS
http://canadianpoliticalyouth.blogspot.com/

Where are the Answers?

January 9th, 2006

As I watch the debate, I have to wonder... Where are the Liberal answers? Paul Martin consistently answers the questions with "Mr. Harper and I have different values..." Well, that's all fine and good, but when we clearly know where Mr. Harper stands, it's hard to decipher where Mr. Martin stands. What do we get from Mr. Martin? "Stephen Harper will do this... Stephen Harper has a plan to eliminate... Bla Bla Bla." Answer on the issues, not on where Harper stands.

Paul Martin is floundering. He cannot cling to power much longer, and I will be glad to see his ass dumped from his chair in the PMO. It's not what you know in politics anymore, it's who you know. After all... This election has proven to be a turning piont in Canadian Politics and History.

As to quote David Dingwall a former Liberal Cabinet minsiter "I am entitled to my entitlements"( liberal arrogance)
The issue of scandal in this election cannot be ignored by the canadian electorate. I too have read The Big Red Machine and interpreted the book slightly different. I find it discouraging and disgracefull that the Liberal party has ruled Canada as a virtual dictatorship for 78 of the past 110 years. Its time for a change in Ottawa.
The liberals want to run on their record over the past 12 years but lets take a look at the history of the current Liberal reigime:

Childcare: The liberals have promised each election to create a child care program but each promise has been a liberal promise. I find it funny that the liberals can't trust parents with a hundred dollars a month when they wasted 250 million on the ad scam. (liberal arrogance)

The GST: The Liberal promised in the 93 election to eliminate this tax but they lied

Education: Under the liberal watch tution costs and student debt load has increased

Health Care: Paul Martin himself cut the federal transferes to the provinces for health care and created a fiscal imbalance greatly affecting wait times and the quality of health care services in a negitive way. The emergence of a two-tiered system again happened on the Liberal watch, Paul Martin and his cabinet use private health care clinics in quebec.

To quote a fellow blogger, "So, what has the Liberal adscam taught us? THAT PEOPLE ARE CORRUPT!! Go forth! Spread the doctrine of common sense! God forbid we should allow such a heathen organization to exist amongst our society of angels and perfect citizens!"

NO! NO! NO! The adscam has proven to all canadians that LIBERALS are corrupt. The Liberal party has lost the moral authority to govern and in my opnion the Liberal party is a Criminal organisation.

After 12 years of Liberal rule, corruption and scandal has rocked the federal government.
Its all fine and good that Sir John A. MacDonald's government was affected by scandal but that was over a hundred years ago. Myself as a canadian tax payer was not affected by Sir John A's scandal but my money was wasted in Shawinigate, the Sponsorship Scandal, HRDC, 6 billion on the gun registery and two recent RCMP investigations. ( liberal arrogance)

Canada deserves better than a culture of entitlement.

Thats why i will vote conservative

Stand up for Canada and vote Conservative
http://canadianpoliticalyouth.blogspot.com/

Liberal Education Plan: NOT helping me...

January 8th, 2006

I highly doubt that $6000 is going to help me go to University at all... I can expect to have about $70,000 in Student Loan debt following my graduation from University, after completing a five year program. How does knocking that debt down to $64,000 help me at all? Secondly, it breaks their promise made in the 2004 Election: "The Liberal Party's post-secondary education platform, unveiled today, ignored a key education promise made during the 2004 federal election. Prime Minister Paul Martin promised to increase transfer payments for post-secondary education by $4 billion. Until Martin addresses this core funding to universities and colleges, the Liberal plan is incomplete."

The Canadian Federation of Students Chairperson, Mr. George Soule corroborates this, when he comments: "Students are still worse off under the Liberal plan today than they were when the Liberals formed the government in 1993. By not restoring billions of dollars in core funding that was cut during the 1990s, the Liberal Party's strategy falls short."

Tuition fees are STILL on the rise, and there is nothing within the Liberal plan to freeze/reduce them. Instead, they plan to pay $6,000 to each student; which, by the way, how is this going to be done? Will I get a cheque, or will my parents get a tax credit? Probably neither, because somehow, this looks like another empty promise on the part of Paul Martin and the Liberals.

How can students, and their voting parents trust a government that stole two-hundred and fifty million dollars; a government that is being investigated by the RCMP on TWO different fiscal issues, one of which is insider trading; a government that promised to cut the GST in 1993, and twelve years later, it still exists? Look at the record: you couldn't trust them then, and you can't trust them now. This record would make the LPC the most successful political party on earth.

But many would ask, in our present political climate, why one should vote Liberal in the midst of their scandal and corruption. Fair enough. So why should we?

In the best of circumstances we can only truly substantiate our political belief with opinion. I mean to say, what are "facts" in politics when spin doctors and biased media outlets are really the only purveyors of it? But now to the question: why? If we assume that the corruption of the LPC and the subsequent scandal that spawned from it is the heart of people's disenchantment with the party, we must make this topic a priority.

Canadians who are familiar with their history need only look back 100 odd years to our country's first ministry for a tale of scandal and corruption of the highest order. Indeed, if the Pacific Scandal of Macdonald's government has anything to tell us, it must be that people are generally uninterested in such public misdeeds. Certainly when the PM clearly responsible for the mess is able to get re-elected after one term out and who could very well have faced an indictment for fraud, that says something.

If we fast-track to our present situation, are we not seeing history repeat itself? It is no myth that voter apathy is at an all-time low even with the played-up, sensationalist bleating of the media and opposition parties about the travesty of corruption. And with the Liberals losing relatively little support after the blood of the worst scandal in Canadian history is on their hands, what exactly does that say? That people are just apathetic, right? Not exactly. Even in Macdonald's day, his Conservatives lost enough support to surely find their way into being the Opposition when the election was called. What about Martin and his bunch? He still has a damn good chance!

So, what has the Liberal adscam taught us? THAT PEOPLE ARE CORRUPT!! Go forth! Spread the doctrine of common sense! God forbid we should allow such a heathen organization to exist amongst our society of angels and perfect citizens!

But wait, should we not demand more of our elected officials? Demand that our politicians be more moral than us? Ha! Give me a break, please. We none of us are untainted by corruption, it doesn't take much introspection to discover that! If I'm not much mistaken, we founded our institutions on the basis that people are imperfect. As well, I believe our government is picked from among us anyway.

Though the question still remains aside from corruption, why vote Liberal? Well, I would first challenge you, the reader, to find me a party within our system that represents the values and beliefs of more people than the centrist Liberals? The only party that continually adapts to the changes of people's values over time and generally doesn't try to pull the country one way or the other when the people do not want it. The genious of the Liberal Party is that it is the most things to the most people. Why should a party that aims to faithfully serve its electorate be anyting else?

Certainly, we should vote Liberal because we are Canadian. Mr. Harper's policies and values arrive at one chillingly un-Canadian climax: the Americanization of Canada. Although this already occurs, we don't need another catalyst for it. Especially one sitting in the Prime Minister's Office! Mr. Layton and his team have all the pretences of a friendly, unoffensive, social party. But I'm afraid it is all too easy to speculate about lofty social policy when your party has neither never been in office and will not likely be within the foreseeable future. This is, of course, aside from the fact that their fiscal responsibility, or lack thereof, is a joke. And I believe Mr. Duceppe's plan for a united Canada speaks for itself.

I'll not say that the choice in this election is clear nor easy to make. I hope though, that I've displayed the situation in realistic terms. And hey, even that statement is up to you to decide. In my opinion though, I believe it matters who your leader is. I also believe it is important what your party wants for Canada. To that end, I voted Liberal.
http://canadianpoliticalyouth.blogspot.com/

Corruption: A Liberal Issue Part II

January 5th, 2005

Well then, as I was saying... Corruption, this election, is a Liberal issue. They are the ones that stole two-hundred and fifty million dollars, they are the ones that are being investigated by the RCMP for insider trading, they are the ones that allowed David Dingwall to charge taxpayers for a pack of gum, they are the ones who spent six billion on a gun registry that doesn't work, and they are the ones who wasted the cash on the HRDC boondoggle. Are we noticing a trend yet?

Who must defend and prove that these were "needed?" (Which we all know is a blatant lie) The Liberals! Therefore, for which party is corruption an issue? The Liberals! Why did it take the death of an innocent girl on Boxing Day for Paul Martin to get tough on crime, when the violence had occured for a previous ELEVEN months. Only now, after the fifty-sixth death in Toronto because of Guns did Paul Martin promise to enforce tougher sentences? Is he running as a Conservative? Maybe next week he'll run for the NDP.

Laura, you're wrong. Corruption is a Liberal issue; its been demonstrated time and time again this election, and for the past twelve years. As a side note, I would like to know when Doug Moffatt is going to answer questions about his corrupt party, as opposed to his constant reply "I wasn't there." Too bad, you chose to run for the Liberals, now step up and answer, instead of shying away from the issues.
http://canadianpoliticalyouth.blogspot.com/

Corruption: A Liberal Issue

January 3rd, 2006

Well, as you can guess from the title, I disagree with the post that Laura made. Not in it's entirety, I will be focusing on the Canadian aspect of things.

For twelve years, we have had the same government in power- the same party, many of the same MP's, and people with the same ideals. This, in my opinion, constitutes "absolute power," and we all know the old saying "Absolute power corrupts absolutely." Well, in Canada, that saying has been proven in practice, because of the Liberal party.

I'm not saying every party is perfect, and only the Liberals are corrupt- we all know that Tories, the NDP, the Parti Quebecois (Provincial wing of the BQ), have all had scandals attached to them when they were in power at one time or another.

Herein lies the issue- twelve years of corruption, of scandal, and of lies are twelve years too long, in my opinion. We don't know if the Conservatives are corrupt- they haven't been in for twelve years. A new leader, a new vision, a new Canada. If I wasn't on my way out, I'd add more. Expect Part 2 later this evening.
http://canadianpoliticalyouth.blogspot.com/

Corruption: Not a partisan issue

Some money for thought.( Some of the facts were taken from CNN, not necessarily what I believe) In the States, citizens are frustrated at the apparent corruption in their government today. Currently, the Republicans control the Congress and the White House. Years ago when the American public believed there was a significant amount of corruption occuring in their government, they voted out of the power the incumbent Democratic Congress. In Nov 2006, it is likely the House will be a Democratic majority, not because Democrats are not corrupt, but because the citizens tend to vote out incumbents and vote in new, fresh politicians when they are frustrated with their government. Bottom line: It doesn't matter which party is in power, Democrats, Republicans, Liberals, or Conservatives, because money will follow power. Do you think Canada would have had clean government if the Bloc, Conservatives or NDP had of been in charge? Not likely. Corruption is a non-partisan issue. We need to elect good politicians and forget about party lines.
Laura,
Bowmanville, ON
http://canadianpoliticalyouth.blogspot.com/

My Response to Doug Moffatt

January 1st, 2006

I have responded to Mr. Moffatt's e-mail, in hopes that he will adress my issues. Here it is, word for word:

Mr. Moffatt:

Thank you for taking the time to address my concerns, and perhaps you have taken out of context my questions and concerns. I was in no way shape or form attacking, or doubting your credentials as a respectable member of this community. I was, however, hoping to hear your opinion on the scandals within the Liberal party, and how your party, if again elected hopes to repair the damage that was done. If, in any way, you took my comments as a personal attack on your character, than I apologize, and these were not intentional.

My view is that, as a young person, it is difficult to place trust in a government in which all the news regarding them has been about scandals and corruption. I feel that more needs to be done to ensure accountability on the part of ANY governing party, at any time.

Once again, I appreciate you taking the time to speak with me regarding these issues; it speaks quite a bit to any candidates character that is willing to listen to the concerns of those who are not even of voting age. Once again, I look forward to hearing from you on these matters.
http://canadianpoliticalyouth.blogspot.com/

Rude, Ignorant, and running in Durham

January 1st, 2006

Well, I guess Doug Moffat doesn't want to be elected. At least, that's the opinion I get, from the way he responds to the concerns of people who are asking questions, and addressing the issues. I recently e-mailed Mr. Moffat, and asked him how he would be able to represent Durham as a member of a party that is clearly corrupt, and rotting. Here is his response, word for word. I find it extremely rude, and condescending, and will be responding as such very shortly.

"I have not been part of the "Rot" as you choose to call it. I have been an elected and responsible Canadian all my life as Former Teacher, Former M.P.P. and as a Mayor and Regional Councillor I have always conducted myself in an honourable and trustworthy fashion and gained the respect of my colleagues. I shall continue to do the same. I am currently Chair of Durham Regional Police and am in a position of trust and responsiblility. You can choose to believe what you wish."

I will also include my message to Mr. Moffat, word for word. Beforehand, let me say that he did not address any one of the issues that I addressed in my message. Instead, he clearly appears upset, trying to defend his personal record. I didn't ask for his personal record, I wanted his comments on the record of his party- corruption, scandal, and slander. I got nothing but a man tooting his own horn, trying desperately to gain power, to help the Liberals cling to it no matter what. As I said, this is not done, in my opinion. Until I am satisfied with the response I recieve, he will continue to be pressed on the issues. It really isn't hard to answer a question about scandal, rot, and corruption, yet, as a typical Liberal, he has ignored the issue. In fact, he didn't even place his name at the bottom of his message. Before, I was campaigning to help Bev Oda win; now, I'm out to ensure that Doug Moffat is defeated by any means necessary. Liberal arrogance is once again demonstrated, quite blantantly.

"Mr. Moffat:

As a young member of the riding in which you hope to represent, I would like> to present some concerns and issues that I have with your party, in hopes> that you can rest my mind. I don't want to hear the typical response about the economy and the Liberal "record"- that doesn't interest me. I would like to hear your opinion and thoughts on the scandals and corruption that have rotted your party for the past twelve years. The sponsorship scandal is perhaps the most prevalent, and blatant misuse of public funds in Canadian History. Your party, with your current leader as the Minister of Finance, stole two-hundred and fifty million dollars from taxpayers. This includes my parents, who work hard for their money, and it is then misused in such a despicable way to support the Liberal Party and it's cronies. I do not believe that the Liberals can fix this if they were to be re-elected on the 23rd, and have seen no proof to show otherwise.
More recently, we have a Liberal attacking and slandering NDP Candidate Olivia Chow. How can you expect Canadians to support a party that has no qualms with attacking minorities? Your Conservative opponent is in fact of ethnic decent! Can we expect the same attacks from the party to fall onto Bev Oda? I should hope not, but wouldn't put it past the party.
Lastly, we have another Liberal Finance minister in hot water, with a criminal probe being conducted by the RCMP into insider trading. How can Canadians trust the Liberal Party when this is happening, on top of other scandals and lies? It's far too much to stomach, and as a young person, it shatters faith in the electoral system.
Therefore, I simply ask: with these examples, how can you, as a member of this corrupt party make a difference? How can we trust somebody like yourself who is a former MPP for the NDP, who has clearly changed his beliefs for reasons unbeknownst to the electorate? I eagerly await a response."

Now, after reading both Moffat's response, and my letter, can anyone find where he addressed any of my concerns? I didn't think so. Rude, ignorant and running in Durham- The new title for Doug Moffat.
http://canadianpoliticalyouth.blogspot.com/

How did I miss this one?

December 29th, 2005

Well, I wish I had caught this scandal earlier! Two in one week! The stars are truly aligned... A high ranking Liberal Party official had the nerve to bring racism into this campaign, comparing NDP candidate Olivia Chow to a Chow-Chow Dog, posting pictures of the two under the heading "Seperated at Birth." How low, and disgustingly pathetic is the Liberal Party planning to go this election?

As I have said since Day one of this campaign: The Liberals have nothing to run on, so they resort to personal attacks, slander and lies. I'm to the point where I literally hate every last Liberal in this country. Anyone that can support a racist, corrupt, criminal party has no place in my life, and that's why I have my Bev Oda lawn sign. Turf out the morons- it's a shame we're twelve years too late.

"The nature of the blog didn't surprise me because that's how the Martin guys operate ... Scandal #2 strikes, and I'm sure the party must be reeling- scandals during an election can't be helpful. I won't go into details here, I think you should all read this article, but yet again, it involves cash.

Let me say this- As a young person, and a Canadian, I am sick of the constant scandal that we hear of from this government. In twelve years, they have accomplished very little, and left us to deal with their arrogance, and corruption. This needs to end, and will on January 23rd.

For More on Scandal #2: http://www.thestar.com/NASApp/cs/ContentServer?pagename=thestar/Layout/Article_Type1&c=Article&cid
=1135810213590&call_pageid=968332188774&col=968350116467
http://canadianpoliticalyouth.blogspot.com/

Flip Flop #1050, or something like that...

December 27th, 2005

I hope everybody had a lovely Christmas, and didn't eat too much turkey. Anyways, I'm not here to be nice- I have yet another Liberal Flip-Flop to bring to everybody's attention; it's funny how these things come up, isn't it? I'm sure my count of 1050 is very low, especially since my evaluation of the sponsorship scandal was wrong- I was saying the Liberal Party stole thirty million dollars, when in reality, it was nearly two hundred and fifty million. I guess I'm getting a lot more than a dollar from Paul, aren't I? Anyways, straight from the CBC, here we go!

Presenting, Liberal Flip-Flop #1050...

Martin was caught in an embarrassing reversal after he criticized one Harper proposal in particular. After Harper pledged to let Quebec have its own voice at UNESCO meetings, Martin dismissed the plan. "We are one country," he said on Dec. 19. "We speak with one voice internationally, not two and not 10."The Liberal leader said something very different just 19 months earlier, though. "Quebec should not only be seated with us at the table at UNESCO, but it must be able to speak when we discuss things like cultural diversity," Martin said in May 2004, in a speech leading up to the last federal election. "Quebec is the cradle of the French language and culture in North America. It is one of the pillars of the French fact in Canada and in the world. It should be able to express itself on the major subjects that affect it directly. The door should be wide open to it, without ambiguity. And it will be."

Ah, it's funny how things change from one election to another- last time, Martin wanted to take the vote away from the Bloc. Now he's trying to make himself look good to the Federalists who will vote either Conservative or NDP instead of for his corrupt, scandalous party. Am I hearing echoes of the plan to remove the GST Paul?
http://canadianpoliticalyouth.blogspot.com/

Not a Snowball's Chance in Hell...

December 19th, 2005

Well, even some of the more Liberal-leaning newspapers are beginning to sense the wave of change that is sweeping across Canada. The Toronto Star, one of the more Liberal newspapers has seen the way the campaign is going, and has realized that after twelve years of a one party rule, Canada is shifting away from the Liberals, and heading to the Conservatives.

Twelve years, and the country has been marked by scandal, poor social programs, mis-management and corruption under Chrétien, and his successor, Martin. All the while, there was no alternative. No more! Come January 24th, this country will wake to a new era. Will the system be perfect? No. Will it be better after twelve years of corruption? Yes. The Liberals represent the old ways. Let's try something new.
http://canadianpoliticalyouth.blogspot.com/

THE MUD SLINGING HAS BEGUN

Once again the Liberal mudslinging has begun on the eve of the english debates in vancouver. First of all its completely out of place for the american ambassador to make the comments about Paul Martin however the reaction by our Prime Minister was uncalled for. As Prime Minister he should be aware that the United States is our largest trading partner and a close and valuble ally. Without america were would Canada be today? Without foriegn investment canada would not have the fastest growing economy in the G8.

Instead of pissing off Americans by dragging them into this campaign we should focus on Canadian issues not on bashing our closest ally. I'm not a supporter of american policy only amercian money. So Paul Martin make the golden choice for closer ties with our rich american cousins.

CAPITALISM is a GOOD THING
http://canadianpoliticalyouth.blogspot.com/

Provincial & Federal Failure All Round...

December 12th, 2005

So, today the Federal & Provincial Governments announced that they have created healthcare "benchmark" waiting times: the maximum amount of time someone can wait for a specific treatment for a specific disease, or ailment.

Every last one of these waiting times are failures, a failure by the entire country at the same time, with all three parties contributing. Pathetic. They take far too long for someone to get treatment for something that could be potentially life threatening. Each province must meet these benchmarks. If they don't? Oh, there's no penalty. Maybe just a harsh reprimand? That hasn't been discussed. How convenient! Failure #1!

People needing a coronary artery bypass surgery can wait up to twenty-six weeks. That's a waiting time of six months. Truly pitiful, this is a vital treatment for many, and being forced to wait for half a year is disgraceful, it puts Canada as a whole in a bad light. Health Ministers only expect an 80-90% success rate in meeting these benchmark times.

Interestingly, something that has been relatively dominant in Ontario are MRI's, and CT scans, both of which were noticeably absent from the plan introduced today.

Thankfully, someone is speaking out on the behalf of the people. The Canadian Independent Medical Clinics Association called the plan "backwards," going on to say "Wait lists have been eliminated in other European countries with universal health-care systems complemented by private-sector options." (http://www.940news.com/nouvelles.php?cat=23&id=121233)

Other "benchmarks" included:

Sight Restoration: High-risk cataract patients to be treated within 16 weeks

Diagnostic Services: Mammograms every two years for women ages 50 to 69, cervical screenings every three years for women 18 to 69.

Hips and Knees: 26 weeks for hip and knee replacement.

By the way, I would like EVERYBODY to take a look at the "average" Canadians that are the focus of the Liberal ads: http://www.ndp.ca/page/2121 They aren't so average, are they?

http://canadianpoliticalyouth.blogspot.com/

Beer and Popcorn? Scott Reid, communications director for the Prime Minister attacked the Conservative Childcare plan, stating "Don't give people $25 a day to blow on beer and popcorn." Well, first off, the math is wrong. Seven divided by one-hundred does NOT equal $25, but that's just nit-picking. What this comment really shows is how much trust this party puts into the people of this country.

I am disgusted. He may have "apologized" for his remark, but the negative undertone remains. Is this government so arrogant that it doesn't trust the very people who elect them to office? Do all families sit around drinking beer and eating popcorn? I'd say the Liberals should climb down from their throne, and actually look and listen to the "common people."
http://canadianpoliticalyouth.blogspot.com/

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://canadianpoliticalyouth.blogspot.com/2005/12/beer-and-popcorn-i-call-it-liberal.html' title='Beer and Popcorn? Paul Martin, the champion of ending gun violence is again wrong on the issue.

To quote Maclean's Magazine Website, "Handguns are already severely restricted in Canada and a handgun registry has been in force for more than 60 years." How intriguing! Essentially, a ban already exists, but when the Liberals see a chance to capitalize on people's sorrow, and outrage for an increase in violence to gain votes. Who was in power when this increase occured? Federally, the Liberals. Provincially, the Ontario Liberals, in which the province has seen the horrendous effects most dramatically. How convenient...

From the same article: "Basically, all handguns in Canada are illegal now," said Comartin. "The only people who get permits are those who are using them for recreational purposes or those who need it for their own personal safety and there's not a lot of those that are granted." The Mr. Comartin who made this quote is the NDP Member of Parliament for Windsor. Hmm, if they are already essentially illegal, doesn't that mean that the Liberals are, again, just playing on emotions to gain votes?

Whatever is convenient, I suppose.
http://canadianpoliticalyouth.blogspot.com/

Once again, the facts are twisted...

December 9th, 2005

Laura, does your party employ people just to make up the lies, or are you masters of your own domain in that sense? Typical Liberal spin-doctoring, stating that Stephen Harper supports violence, and gun murders? How low, and pathetic does your party need to sink? Well, I suppose since you have nothing to run on other than your corruption and lies, we shall soon see.

I think Stephen Harper should focus on theft. Like, oh I don't know, maybe the theft of Thirty million dollars, by that lovable organization called the... Oh, right, the Liberal Party of Canada.

To quote the Liberals latest lie... I mean press release, "As a Reform MP, Mr. Harper voted against two Liberal government bills to introduce tighter gun control – Bill C-68, which established the Canadian Firearms Program" Would that not be the Gun registry? The same Gun registry that cost taxpayers $60,000,000 and we have since seen gun violence increase? It's working so well, isn't it?

Again, to quote your beloved Party, Laura: "He (Stephen Harper) has even gone so far as to call the Criminal Code amendments this government proposed last year to strengthen minimum sentencing for gun crimes “crummy”. The Liberal government doesn’t believe there’s anything “crummy” about making Canadian communities safer." Rightfully so! When criminals are being released after mere months for commiting gun offences, wouldn't that be crummy in your books? Making communities safer? Let's look at Toronto, shall we? Get the facts straight, get your act together, or say nothing. 12 years of failure and counting, all thanks to the Liberal Party of Canada.
http://canadianpoliticalyouth.blogspot.com/

Where there's a Seniors plan, there should be a Youth Plan

I really want the parties to focus on youth in this election. So I have to ask, how can a party have a plan for seniors,(such as the Conservatives annoucned this morning) and propose a Seniors Advisory Committee to the government, without considering that they should have a Youth Advisory Committee that tells the government exactly what young Canadians need and want? All the parties should be discussing this and making sure that the interests of young people across Canada are considered in their government. Well it sounds like a good idea but is it really? First of all I have to question the timing of this announcement, Paul Martin is clearly once again making unattainable promises just to gain votes in the GTA. I personnally feel cheap like he is trying to pull the wool over my eyes of the real problem in the Jane and Finch area. Just like the gun registry this plan is flawed. This only attacks peaceful people who have guns for protection rather than the serious problem of guns on the street. These gangs and punks do not obtain their weapons through legal means only by smuggling weapons across the boarder. So therefore thier supply will be unaffected. I would also like to piont out how difficult it is for a person to buy a gun in Canada. And this plan is up to the provinces to support and enforce so therefore certain provinces like Alberta and Quebec could choose not to enforce this law just like the 2 billion dollar gun registry.
In conclusion the liberal plan to prevent crime in Toronto is flawed. Instead of banning guns we need to provide economic opprotunity to these areas along with education and social programs to stop the youth of today of turning to violence.

A little off topic but:
During the press relese for this new announement Toronto Mayor David Miller was standing beside Paul Martin. SHAME SHAME. Mayors are supposed to be non partisan. I was also dissapointed to see one of McGuinty's cronies Michael Bryant Attoney General of the province of Ontario. As outlined earlier, the Conservative government will send $1,200 per year, per child to families with pre-school aged children. This is far better than the Liberal proposal to introduce government controlled daycare. I would never put my children into public daycare- the system, the possible abuse, the hygeine, there are so many issues I have with daycare, that I would feel more comfortable using my money to hire a nanny or a babysitter, someone who cares for my children, and mine alone. Their time is the childs time. Much better than sending them to an institution with horrible supervision, etc...

The Conservatives understand what families want, whereas the Liberals seem to be making assumptions, if we can call their horrible idea that. As for the NDP? Yet once again Paul Martin is scrambling to keep up with the excellent proposals made by my party. I hope that this child care program becomes a central issue in the oncoming election rather than "fear tactics" presented by certain parties. Just to outline the Conservative plan: Each family with a child would recieve $1200 per year per kid. This plan ensures that families get the money in their pockets and are free to send their child to any child care program they choose.

The LIBERAL plan: Write a check to the provinces intended for child care but in reality the province can opt out of the program if they choose and waste the money intended.

We can't forget that the NDP have yet to announce their own child care plan

Just one Question: How can we trust the liberals when they have time and time again wasted our money (or "lost" our money) in Ridiculous sponsership programs and the piontless gun registry. How dare you give lectures on how we Conservatives should act, unless you are willing to adhere to the same standards. You belong to a party of liars, and thieves. Yes, there have been scandals of all political stripes, but stealing taxpayer dollars is one of the most pitiful, and cruel schemes ever heard of. Organized crime indeed. Get off your high horse- You aren't better than anyone else, and by my standards, you're worse. Criminals know where to go when the pickin's are right, don't they Laura?

I'd like to just take a quote from you Laura:

"Can't ignore this comment. NOT ALL LIBERALS ARE CRIMINALS. How many times to do I have to say that Martin is not a criminal? You've taken law. You're innocent until proven guilty in Canada. Your evidence is circumstantial. I can't even argue with you anymore. You're just Liberal-bashing and it's cruel. I would never do this to a party I disagree with. Play nice or don't play at all"

I guess we should make two sets of rules? One for the Liberals, and one for everyone else? You have a crook for a leader, therefore every last one of you is a crook. You criticize us when we even comment on Paul Martin, yet it's okay for you to attack Stephen Harper, and call him un-Canadian? That's bullshit. You want to play, play by the rules YOU set down. That goes for this blog, and for the laws of this Country. Last time I checked, stealing was illegal, could you clarify this for me Laura? Or is it okay under Liberal standards?

The Conservative Finance Critic crunched the numbers; before your precious party fell to defeat, they were promising about $4,000,000 of programs and spending per hour. That's sad- a desperate attempt to buy the electorate. Again, isn't that illegal, or only for every non-Liberal? The law works both ways, not just for everyone besides the Liberal Party. Corrupt, and pathetic. I personnaly dissapionted that most canadians seem not to care that millions of dollars have dissapeared. What kind of country do we live in where the ruling party steals from its citizens. These statements are not accusations but based on the Gomery report.
Its unfortunate that the Liberal paints all conservatives with an evil brush that most believe. Instead of basing their votes on the canadidate or policy they are basing their vote on fear propaganda issued by the Liberal party. Really im not conservative im just anti liberal. How can anyone support a party that missuses our hard earned money. Money does not come easily at least not to me and the current government is corrupt and going on a spending spree. Under the liberal watch our country was almost split in two and now once again federalism in Quebec is dissapearing. As a canadian not as a conservative I am deeply concerned and dissappionted in what the Canadian government is today. We need a change and we need it now.
Voting turn out is at an all time low. Why? People are dissatisfied with our government. I encourage all people to vote.
I personnally hate taxes and that statement does not make me anyless of an Canadian. I like my money and I belive as a member of a capitalist society there are opprotunities for everyone to earn their own money. Sure our current health care System SUCKS. But who do we have to blame for that? A party party that has not been in power for twelve years or the government.

Canada is at a crossroads and its time for a change
http://canadianpoliticalyouth.blogspot.com/

Harper's tax cut: Taking away everything that makes us Canadian

An anchor on CBC mentioned that young people today will never have known any other government besides a Liberal one. Scary? Potentially. What's scarier is Harper's proposed GST tax cut. Okay, so we would all LOVE to have lower taxes, but the problems we don't want to have are the ones we hear about all the time from everyday Americans who have to sell their house, take out second mortages or go bankrupt because they have to pay for unexpected medical services that us Canadians take for granted. Today in Canada, a young person can go onto a fine post-secondary institution without having to pay to send them to a private high school institution or pay for SAT prep courses. Bursuries and scholarships ensure that every bright young individual can reach his or her potential. What does all this have to do with Harper's tax cuts? Our taxes pay for everyday expenses, like drugs, hospitals, schools, retirement funds etc. I wouldn't be alive today if it weren't for Sick Kids hospital in TO, and the tax dollars of Ontario citizens. Even if I had lived, my parents and I would be living in a shack if we were funding private insurance, like in the American two-tier health care system. Not that I'm totally against private health care (it once took 6 months for me get an MRI to determine if I had a stroke), but that's a whole other issue. My main point is, I LOVE taxes. Taxes are what make us Canadians. We like to give to those less fortunate than ourselves. So, I'm encouraging all young Canadians to open their hearts and their wallets and say no to Harper's GST cut.
Laura H
Bowmanville, ON
http://canadianpoliticalyouth.blogspot.com/

First weekend on the campaign

Today I was reading through the paper and saw a picture of Stephen Harper pushing a seven year-old child away from him because she was hugging him. Two things came to mind: Harper is a cold, mean man who doesn't represent Canadians. But then, I started to think about it more deeply. What kind of world do we live in where a man at a campaign rally feels that he can't even hug a child without being labelled a sex fiend or something like that? Yeah, so, that'll be a major picture of the campaign. But, a picture I want to remember is a scene from yesterday when I spent my first day canvassing(knocking on doors, handing out brochures and asking for votes) for Diane Lloyd of Peterborough. Me and my fellow volunteer approached a house and knocked as normal, but an overly anxious dog rushed out the door and across the street, nearly attacking the candidate. The little boy of the household ran out outside, clad in pajamas and bare feet, and grabbed the dog. Leslie-the other voluteer- was about to introduce herself as a volunteer for Diane's opponent and I was about to scream " Vote Harper" and run as fast as I can, when the woman of the house told us she was a Liberal supporter and even asked if she could have a lawn sigh. Pheew! A disasterous start, but Leslie, Bill Jr, Bill Sr, Diane Lloyd and I battled the cold, canines, and Conservatives throughout the afternoon. Now I've got to ask, what kind of young person wouldn't throw on their touque and get involved in a political campaign?

Encouraging my fellow youth to roll up their sleeves and get involved,
Laura H,Bowmanville, ON
http://canadianpoliticalyouth.blogspot.com/

The Youth Vote, The Youth Voice

The Youth Vote, The Youth Voice

It occured to me the other day that this is the first election that really matters to me. On January 23 2006, I will cast my first ballot, exactly 16 days after my 18th birthday and claim one of my rights under the Charter as a Canadian citizen. Okay, so I admit it's a day I've been thinking about probably since I was.. I dunno 14 or 15, but it's really only dawned on me in the last few days. I've been a Liberal Party supporter for about 2 years now, but that doesn't necessarily mean that's who I'm going to vote for. I want to be fully courted for my vote this election. But, I know that won't happen. Why? It all boils down to politicans ignoring the small portion of 18-24 year-olds who vote. That's our choice, it's our fault for not casting out ballot. But that doesn't give our leaders the right to ignore to the REST of us who dare care about our government. That's why we're here. We're here to voice the opinions, MANY opinions, of the minority of young Canadians who do value citizenship and patriotism and all that good stuff. Take a stand. Tell your leaders what they can do for young people. Tell them what you want in the next Parliament... Just vent your heart out. This is your forum.
Laura H,
Bowmanville, ON

P.S.
